Monday 23rd June – Windsurf **** River Orwell at Levington – sunny
periods and hot.
Foil – 18.60 knot max, 17.23 knot ave., 12.66 knot hour, 15.66 knot
mile, 39.77 km., 14.94 knot alpha.
Starboard Freeride 150 and a Evolution Freeride foil with a Tushingham
Storm 5.2.
With a good breeze from the west and sunbshine forecast I headed over to
Levington arriving at the Marina at 8.40 wanting to get out before the
10.30 high water! The tide was pretty high so I quickly set-up the foil
board and with the wind actually blowing wnw a fraction off it is hard to
judge the strength but with white water out on the Orwell it looked fairly
breezy so took a chance with my 5.2 which proved OK for the two hour
session! I was up and flying straight away and with a lot of water in the
river there was a good swell running, in fact it is fairly lumpy in this
direction which is’nt a problem when foiling! I slowly made my way down
to the corner being able to gybe each side of the river where the water was
smoother:) I did manage a few longer runs down towards the docks but the
better wind was on the corner. I did have to avoid a couple of coasters
heading to Ipswich, saw a couple of old barges and a few yachts but
generally it was pretty quiet with me being the only foiler out today as
most had gone to the River Stour! Nothing fast today because of the swell
but some OK mile runs with some cool gybing, getting knackered I decided to
head back, there was a large area of floating weed by the launch beach
which I had to wade through and I once again upset the Oyster Catcher
nesting on a section of old Marina pontoon but I quickly carry my gear past
to avoid too much disturbance! Back, shower and home by 12.30 to spend the
afternoon with the Granddaughter, the lovely Maeva:) We even go for a nice
walk along the prom spotting one of the large painted hares down by the
pier! Top day:)
